Alelion and Exide Technologies start dialogue to explore potentials for long-term cooperation
Gennevilliers, Stockholm, 23.01.2023: Exide Technologies (exidegroup.com) and Alelion Energy Systems have started a dialogue about a potential commercial cooperation focusing on production and sales of high-voltage lithium-ion battery systems and solutions.
The aim of a potential long-term partnership is to jointly develop innovative systems and solutions - based on high-voltage lithium-ion technology - and to combine the respective core competencies of both companies.
Exide Technologies' strong position in the material handling and AGV (Automated Guided Vehicles) segments in EMEA and APAC will be the initial focus. Exide Technologies is today a leading company providing the material handling market with energy solutions covering everything from LAB to LIB to chargers and (smart) fleet management systems. The portfolio includes lead-acid batteries as well as a range of low-voltage lithium-ion battery systems & solutions. The company has a strong presence in the EMEA and APAC regions, and its sales organisation provides support to its customers in identifying and developing the optimal solution for each customer application.
Alelion has nearly 20 years of experience in lithium-ion technology and holds a strong market position for high-voltage lithium-ion battery systems - specifically for a range of off-highway vehicles.
Joint Forces: A collaboration between the two companies holds great mutual potential and would give Exide, as a global player, immediate access to technical innovations in the field of high-voltage lithium-ion technology on the one hand, and create a wider market reach for Alelion on the other, thus enabling mutual growth and extended reach.
Both companies will now begin a more detailed analysis and deepen the dialogue, with the aim of being ready to make a decision based on the assessments in the second half of 2023.
"A future partnership between the two companies would build on Exide's strong market position as well as the leading technical expertise on Alelion. We are pleased to have started the dialogue with a big player like Exide. Exide's strong market position could enable us to increase our market penetration, says Åsa Nordström, CEO, Alelion Energy Systems AB.
“Exide Technologies identified and defined the area of lithium-based systems and energy management solutions as part of its strategy several years ago. This market will undoubtedly gain massively in importance in the coming decades. We have already significantly expanded this segment through strategic acquisitions. Of course, we are consistently pursuing our path of identifying strategic partnerships, cooperations, synergies and growth potentials. I am pleased that we have started initial talks with Alelion and will now exchange ideas intensively", says Stefan Stübing CEO & President of Exide Technologies.
